The Dark Art of Description

The author had a specific purpose through her writing like all writing should have. She was trying to make the reader understand that you can describe anything in detail you just have to put hard work into it. You cant just expect it to come naturally either. Describing something that would normally be very difficult to describe takes precious time...anyone can do it they just have to stay focused and realize that others don't necessarily know what they are talking about. If a writer begins with this thought process then they can be successful in describing and everyday object. Descriptions provide the reader with vivid images which is key to a successful process as a whole. The author of the specific reading we had to do really wanted to get across the importance of being descriptive. The last few paragraphs that where she talks to a student about his boring small town life shows that the simplest of things can be described with immense powers. The student didnt realize he would be able to do it until he spoke the words out loud. Because of this reading one is able to see how much better writing can be with the use of description.

  1. The best way to describe how detail is so important and is so possible is think of how a blind person sees. they read descriptions, those must be in detail so that someone who cannot physically see it can "see it". It is very true that you can describe anything in detail, it is all about how you word it, and when you say it, and why. I couldn't imagine reading something that was description less for enjoyment. I would read something that was like that, but i would not enjoy it, nor would I want to do it again. Description is a huge part of the daily life, from directions, to cooking, to pretty much everything! Honestly, Now that i think of it, I could not continue life, with out description. the world would be chaotic and confused. WIth the authors last few paragraphs she did put what she was preaching into context. she showed that a small town could be described colorfully. I think this is where authors have an advantage to make the story. they can take situations like this small town and make it into something completely different and opposite and everything they want it to be, just with a few words. Your imagination is endless and so are our options, description is a big tool in what you want to do everything in situations.
