My topic is the movie Grease. It currently impacts American culture because a lot of the influences and themes throughout the movie are still sought out today. Grease is different than other movies because it was made in the seventies yet is still very popular today. In 1997 it was still at the top of the charts. Because it is so popular it is hard to not realize the messages that come from it. Because Grease reaches to all ages of people everyone can be affected by it. It looks good to all different people which causes them to remember what is going on in the movie. I think i am going to talk about a major topic within the movie that involves sandy and how she enters into the high school and innocent girl that was not worried about what others thought but because of all the pressure of her peers by the end she transforms into Sandra D who essentially loses her virginity...with this i think im going to talk about something like how people are becoming to influence by others...maybe how celebrities influence too much...or how behavior in high school can be dangerous because the kids are still so young but think they are so old....or my favorite option is talking about the pressure to have sex in high school and how many view that as the time to "experiment"
Grease is a great movie. Everytime I watch it, i dont really thnk about what the author is trying to convey to me or anything. I usually just watch it for fun. Now that you pointed out that the movie implies peer pressure, I kind of view the movie a little different that how I have in the past. I think peer pressure, and influencing are big issues today. Sometimes pressure form friends or family can be good, but sometimes it can be bad as well. For Grease, the author is trying to tell the reader that peer pressure leads to bad things, just like what happened to Sandra D. He/she has a good point and I can see that you agree with him/her.
ReplyDeleteBehavior is a huge aspect in ones life. It shows what kind of a person you are, and can lead others to negative ends. There are alot of things you can talk about for your topic. I would definatley talk about how high school can be the changing point in peoples life because it is the time to "experiment". I would relate how the movie effected people in the 70's in comparison to present day. Comparing an issue from one time period to another will really help show that you know what your talking about, and will help you write 10 full pages. Now that I think about it, I wish Grease was my topic, I could wrtie for days about that move haha.
This is such a great movie, I love watching it! I didn't realize that it came out in the seventies, it just always has seemed like a movie everybody knew about. Which, obviously, makes it a great topic! Oddly, I have never thought about the messages that were conveyed in this movie but there really are a lot of great themes you could talk about. Another thing I was thinking about when I looked at the picture was smoking. I know the media used to have a huge impact on people in regards to smoking and drinking and although lesser, the media still impacts us in this way today. In Grease, the actors are so "cool" and they smoke and drink. This is still very much true in ads for alcohol today. It sounds like you have a lot of great ideas and you really could go so many routes with this topic. Excellent choice!
